LA Peel

LA PeelProduct Summary
Launched in the UK in 2007, The LA Peel from Lifestyle Aesthetics (pH 2.34) is a superficial chemical peel comprising of 3 different peeling agents in an ethanol base.

What does it contain?
The LA Peel solution contains (essentially) 14% each of resorcinol (an antiseptic often used to treat chronic skin conditions such as acne and eczema), lactic acid, and salicylic acid. Each ingredient performs an important function in the peeling process.

Is this a superficial, medium or deep peel?
The LA Peel is classified as a superficial peel, but the peel can be layered by an experienced practitioner for a deeper peel.

What skin problems does it claim to treat?
The peel is used to treat mild to moderate wrinkles, sun damaged skin, melasma and mild to moderate acne.

The range is suitable for all skin types; however ethnic and darker skin types may be treated with a series of light peels in order to exercise extra caution against possible risks of skin pigment damage.

Licenced status
Not applicable as a superficial peel.

Should be administered by
Trained member of the medical professional only. It should not be used as a beauty treatment.

Peels not to be used in
Pregnant and breastfeeding women.

Those people already on a peeling programme or using retinol products.

Those people who are allergic to aspirin or who have active facial herpes (cold sores).

People using Acutane (Roaccutane) for the treatment of severe acne may notice extreme sensitivity to many products. You should stop using Acutane for 3 months prior to any peels.

Peel program
Depending on the area being treated a number of peel treatments may be recommended for optimum results, ranging from one to several. Treatment sessions would be spaced 4 - 6 weeks apart.

Your practitioner may then recommend using the Theraderm Skin Renewal System range of products at home post peel.

Reported side effects
According to the manufacturer there are no reported side effects, however if over peeling should occur with resulting irritation, then Hydrocortisone 1% cream can be used to treat.

People who are prone to cold sores should be prescribed Valtrex or Zovirax 2 days prior to peel.

Costs
This depends on area treated and how much is required, and the practitioner doing the treatment, but ranges are in the region of £350 - £400 including pre- and post- peel products.
