What is Mole Scanning?
Working with Map My Mole, a UK-based service that offers digital mole reviews we are able to help in detecting potential skin concerns, including early signs of skin cancer.
Here’s how it works:
High-quality images of your mole or skin lesion are taken using a dermatoscope—a special medical camera that captures detailed visuals.
These images are securely sent to UK consultant dermatologists, who review them and provide a report—usually within 24 to 48 hours.
The report includes expert insights and recommendations, which can be shared with your GP if further action is needed.
What signs should I be looking for?
Spotting a suspicious mole early can make a huge difference. Dermatologists often use the ABCDE rule to help identify warning signs of melanoma, the most serious type of skin cancer:
A – Asymmetry: One half of the mole doesn’t match the other.
B – Border: Edges are irregular, ragged, or blurred.
C – Colour: Uneven shades of brown, black, red, white, or even blue.
D – Diameter: Larger than 6mm (about the size of a pencil eraser), though smaller ones can still be risky.
E – Evolution: Any change in size, shape, colour, or symptoms like itching or bleeding.
Other red flags include:
A sore that doesn’t heal
Spreading pigment into surrounding skin
New swelling, tenderness, or pain
Crusting, oozing, or a lump forming on the mole.
If you notice any of these signs, it’s best to get it checked—either through your GP or a service like Map My Mole.
